2072 !!
Its been a long time since I last posted the blog. A tumultuous year has passed, with earthquake still haunting us with it’s tremor time and again. But the government seems apathetic to the plights of victims. The reconstruction projects are not started yet and the arrival of the monsoon soon will add worry to their plights. Who is to be blame for this situation? The international donor agencies have pledged their full support but the government modus operandi has created doubts. It’s the poor people who have to suffer at the end.
This year turned out to be more daunting to the people as they were plagued by the embargo imposed by our neighboring country India. The issue of nationality was raised strongly and yet we are compelled to live under their hegemony. There were long discourses held on to how we should create our own resources and should not be overdependent on others for our living. But we tend to forget them soon as the imports have eased in the recent days. We endured such hard times with patience and perseverance and now is the time to work ahead in building resources and long term projects for self dependent. Though it’s not possible to extract petroleum product recently we can increase our capability on food, agriculture, electricity and many more.
Yet with these misfortunes, the promulgation of new constitution was applauded by many; though it became contentious as the madhesh based political parties were reluctant to accept it . The happiness brought by this event was ephemeral , the madhesi disgruntled groups intensified the strife along with blockade which added woes to the people rather than soothing their problems. We know that the constitution is the driving force and unless it is implemented nothing is going to happen.
Long decades have passed, no substantial development has proceeded. One decade was jeopardized by maoist insurgency, another decade has passed in drafting a constitution, yet we don’t know how many decades we need to go through to see the radical changes. No structural infrastructure has taken shape in rural areas, the remote hilly districts are still deprived of transportation, health and education facilities. A minor cholera outbreak still cost the lives of many people. The affluence of the elites is rising, they are backed by the political notoriety but the people in abject poverty suffers exponentially in this capitalistic world.
The position of Nepal, high, in the happiness index shows that we are the people who knows in-spite of any difficulties being elated and smiling with all our problems makes us the most stoical and intrepid person. We don’t know the future, how it will be..so lets be cheerful and make our life easier!!
Happy new year!!
